![]() Sugar Cane Train The Lahaina-Ka`anapali and Pacific Railroad or, as it is more commonly known, the Sugar Cane Train runs between Lahaina and Ka`anapali on narrow gauge track. The locomotive is an authentic steam engine and the coaches are replicas of those used on the Hawai`ian Railroad in the late 19th century. In the early days of sugar cane production, there were few roads — therefore the cane was moved between the fields and the mills using a combination of horse-drawn wagons and trains. Over time, trucks became the method of transport but this little bit of history has been preserved. Sugar cane production is dying — but you can still take a nostalgic ride through former sugar cane fields. |
