Poinsettias

Poinsettias are native to Mexico but are common in Hawai`i. Unlike the Christmas houseplant that folks from the mainland are familiar with, poinsettias in Hawai`i are often grown outside as a landscaping plant. The bracts provide the bright colors based on the length of the day — which tends to peak during the year-end holiday period. Keep your eyes open and you might even find a small poinsettia tree.
