Hello Friends and Family,

From this spot on the walking trail, there is a nice view of one of the peaks in the garden. Lots of thick vegetation so you can just walk straight up there — you have to follow the paved path.

In spots, it looks like they planted a garden of succulents. Still, you have to watch where you walk — you don't want to get spiked by any of those plants.

Ah, one of my favorites — ocotillo. It has thorns, and when it gets enough moisture, it puts out small leaves and even some beautiful red tubular flowers which grow from the end of the stems from March through June.

OMG, this saguaro cactus is a stunner. It has formed a cluster at the top of the main truck that resembles Elvis' hair just after a shampoo.

And at an outpost of the garden, we find another of the special geometric figures ready to delight us once the sun goes down.

This is special: a fish hook cactus with flowers. Notice the spines that are curved at the pointed end that resemble fish hooks— which is obviously how it got its unusual name.

One of my favorite landscaping plants, a firecracker plant. The small flowers resemble the tiny firecrackers that are used at Chinese New Year — which is obviously how the plant acquired its name.

Here we spot the skeleton of a saguaro cactus, which appears to be lying where it fell when the cactus died. The caretakers have left it there so guests can see the full life cycle of these wonderful and unique plants.

My guess is that this is the remains of the huge nest made by a bird. I did not see any baby birds or shells, but it sure looks ready for a new bird family.

Here is a sculpture (obviously), but I did not see a placard describing what it depicts. I guess that is up to the imagination of the visitor to the garden.

Another sculpture which, to me, suggests a person swimming in the ocean, perhaps with the fishes joining in the fun.

We started today looking at the hill. I guess we end up the same way from a different place. Beautiful.

To be continued...

Life is good.

Aloha,
B. David
