This week I attended the Desert Botanical Garden members' annual meeting where, among other things, they presented a slide show of the installation of the Chihuly exhibit. The logistics were staggering — five semis transporting 1516 boxes of glass, 13 crates, 10 pallets, 2 boats. In total some 5,380 pieces of glass. There were 17 major installations. The Sun alone weighed 7,997 pounds. Although the exhibit is now gone, one will remain — The Desert Tower which was installed in the entry area just outside the gardens and which is on a lease-to-purchase arrangement.
