Nēnē The Nēnē is a species of goose endemic to the Hawai`ian Islands and is the official state bird of the state. It is an endangered species — you will note the identification tags on this bird's legs. The Nēnē evolved from ancestors who migrated (intentionally or possibly knocked off course by storms) from Canada. At one time, the Nene was found on most of the Hawai`ian Islands but now is limited to Kaua`i, Maui, Moloka`i and the Big Island. |
